Senator Ben Allen Honors The Albright at the 2019 California Small Business Day

SM Daily Press:  Senator Ben Allen (D – Santa Monica) has named The Albright as Small Business of the Year for Senate District 26. The Albright, which was chosen for its commitment to sustainability and dedication to the Santa Monica community, received the award at a Sacramento luncheon sponsored by the California Small Business Association on Wednesday, June 19.

“It is my pleasure to recognize Greg Morena, Yunnie Kim Morena, and everyone at The Albright for serving generations of Santa Monicans on the Santa Monica Pier,” Senator Allen said. “They have been trailblazers in sustainability and greening efforts on the Pier and in the greater Santa Monica community by serving sustainable, locally sourced seafood and ingredients. This is a labor of love for the Morena family and they have done a fantastic job bolstering fellow Santa Monica businesses and engendering a sense of respect and social responsibility within the community.”

California Small Business Day 2019 honored 82 small businesses for their contributions to the state’s economy. Small business contributes to 75% of California’s gross domestic product and over half of the state’s private sector jobs. Recap of the Pico Fitness Crawl 2016 (videos)

The Pico Improvement Organization held its first ever Pico Fitness Crawl event on Saturday, October 10, 2016.  Seventeen fitness businesses along Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica, spanning from the beach to the city’s eastern border, offered 10-minute workouts throughout the morning to participants. About 60 people signed up for the event and either walked, ran, or biked from station to station.  Fun was had by all!


Pico Boulevard businesses support the Samohi Viking Fund during Buy Local week

SM Daily Press:  Pico Boulevard based-businesses are partnering up to raise money for the Santa Monica High School Athletic Booster Club, also known as The Viking Fund.  The donations drive will run from September 12-20 as part of the Buy Local/Give Local campaign orchestrated by Buy Local.

The Viking Fund is a nonprofit corporation, which operates as a volunteer support group for the Santa Monica High School athletic programs by providing financial assistance and moral support to Samohi students, athletes, coaches and teams.  The fund works closely with the Samohi athletics administration and coaches. The booster club also works to maintain the quality of the school’s athletic programs, improve their athletic facilities and coordinate fundraising activities.

Santa Monica High School parent and Viking Fund football mom, Lori Whitesell, couldn’t be happier that Pico businesses will be supporting the fund.  Read more > > >


Downtown Donates to SMMEF

SM Daily Press:  Businesses in Downtown Santa Monica are collaborating to support local education initiatives through the upcoming Buy Local, Give Local Week.

From Sept.12-20, participating businesses in several business districts will donate a portion of their proceeds to various local charities. Downtown Santa Monica is supporting the Santa Monica Malibu Education Foundation (SMMEF).

Established in 1982, SMMEF’s mission is to engage the community to invest in a vibrant educational experience for all students in the Santa Monica and Malibu public schools, according to a Buy Local press release.

The nonprofit provides financial support for academic and arts programs, field trips and other services for SMMUSD students. Funding during Buy Local, Give Local Week will be used to purchase new textbooks and fund teachers and afterschool programs.

For participating businesses, supporting neighborhood establishments strengthens the bond between commerce and community.  Read more > > >
