Local Businesses Will Still Offer “Buy Local Weekend” Specials and Discounts This Weekend and Kickoff a City-Wide Scavenger Hunt

(Santa Monica, CA; March 14, 2012) – Due to the high chance of rain expected this weekend, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Santa Monica and the City of Santa Monica have decided to postpone the 2nd annual Buy Local EXPO to Saturday, March 31, 2012. The EXPO will be at the same time and place, 11a.m. – 4p.m. on the Third Street Promenade, and feature over 80 local vendors and food booths, interactive activities and live music and entertainment on two stages. The Sidewalk Sales at participating retailers on Main Street, Montana Avenue, Pico Boulevard, Ocean Park Boulevard and in Downtown Santa Monica, will also be postponed to the 31st.  For a complete list of updates, vendors and sponsors, please visit www.smchamber.com/buylocalexpo.

The city’s official “Buy Local Weekend 2012” is still taking place this weekend, March 17 and 18, when restaurants, hotels, retail stores and vendors throughout Santa Monica will offer specials encouraging consumers and visitors to come out and spend locally in the rain. Various neighborhoods will continue to offer specials and activities as part of Buy Local Weekend including an Airport Art Walk at Santa Monica Airport from 12-5p.m. and as well as the Saturday Farmers Markets on Arizona Avenue (at 3rd St) and at Virginia Avenue Park. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend will go to support local schools so people are encouraged to come out in the rain to support their local businesses.

The Buy Local citywide Scavenger Hunt will also continue as scheduled beginning on March 17th with an extended deadline to April 2nd. Clues, rules and prizes will be available online starting on the 17th at www.buylocalsm.com/scavengerhunt  or at the Buy Local EXPO booth on the Promenade on the 31st. All participants will be entered to win thousands of dollars in prizes including a one-night stay at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, Equinox Gym membership, Whole Foods gift packages, spa certificates, shopping sprees at the SM Place Mall, certificates for local restaurants and more.
